Installation firm flourishes thanks to innovative decking system

Decking and fencing installation specialist Northern Deckline is flourishing thanks to innovative new products offered by leading building plastics distributor Magden.

Wakefield-based Northern Deckline has forged an impressive reputation during its first year of operation by installing composite Fitrite decking, supplied by Magden.

For the past 20 years the installation company has solely operated as Northern Roofline, offering an installation service on PVCu roofline products and single ply flat roofs.

However after being impressed with the decking product they created a new arm, Northern Deckline, which has quickly developed into three installation teams within a matter of months.

Laurence Hicks, commercial director of Magden said: “The rate of growth Northern Deckline has achieved with this product is very impressive.

“We are introducing our customers to Fitrite because we feel it’s ideal for experienced installation teams. This composite product helps people in the roofline and glazing industries add another service to their portfolio, while utilising their existing skills and customer base.”

The hardwearing decking system, which is made from a blend of recycled hardwood and polymer, has the appearance of timber but without the upkeep.

Fitrite decking is weather proof, easy to clean, splinter free and crack resistant. It doesn’t rot or warp like timber decking and fencing.

Director of Northern Deckline Richard Wood said: “Our customers are attracted to Fitrite largely because it’s easy to clean, long-lasting and above all non-slip. This can be a genuine problem with timber decking which can often be covered in moss residue if it stands under trees or bushes and can therefore become dangerous underfoot.

“Younger families like it because it doesn’t split or splinter and doesn’t have any sharp edges. This makes it not only cleaner looking, but more importantly safer for children to play on.”

Richard explained that Northern Decking now has three designated installation teams working specifically on fitting the decking, balustrade and fencing systems, with around four or five projects taking place every week.

“The range of projects varies from smaller patio areas to large 100 square metre gardens,” he added. “Without doubt this year it has been the busiest part of the entire business.

“We regard it as being a seasonal branch of the firm, because as winter approaches more customers will come forward to improve or secure the roofs of their homes.

We feel we now have a strong foundation of diverse areas which helps keep us busy throughout the entire year.”

Fitrite comes with a 20 year warranty if fitted by an approved installer.

Leading building plastic product supplier Magden, which has five branches across the North of England, added Fitrite decking to its product list in 2014.
