Should we be worried by statistics being released that say UK construction growth is slowing down, or is this another case of ‘statistics can be read in different ways’?

With construction accounting for around 6% of the UK economy, it is significant enough to be important to the general well-being of the country, and very important indeed to our own sector of this industry. Growth means more fenestration requirements and, with the overall economy looking pretty rosy, a downturn is as welcome as a…well, put it like this, it wouldn’t be good.

Some commentators are blaming this blip on “the sector becoming a victim of its own success as it struggles to keep up with its own speed of recovery” and others on the difficulty of replacing the skills that were lost in the recession. Although the general outlook pronounces that 2015 will be healthy, the word of warning is that housebuilders are working at capacity, with little room to expand in the coming months.
