Exlabesa Building Systems is one of the few UK aluminium system companies who extrude all their products in the UK. And with the uncertainty surrounding Brexit and the current economic climate, surely it makes sense to support British manufacture? This is the view of Paul Benn, General Manager of Exlabesa Building Systems, who says: “At Exlabesa, we are justifiably proud of our global reach and European roots, but our commitment is very much in the UK and our Doncaster aluminium extrusion plant continues to expand with a recent £4.5 million investment taking place. It’s a commitment to the UK market that we were delighted to make and ensures we continue to deliver for our growing customer base.”
The multi-million-pound investment involved the installation of a new state-of-the-art extrusion press which has taken the company’s extrusion capacity to 18,000 tones a year. The new 35 MN extrusion press will be used to extrude profiles with a diameter capacity up to 254 millimetres.
The new extrusion press will enable Exlabesa to further improve energy efficiency at its plant because it uses start-stop technology that enables average energy savings of 10% compared to modern presses without similar technology. Paul commented: “Energy efficiency is good for the business and good for the planet. We’re proud to have invested in machinery that will enable us to reduce consumption intelligently.”
The impressive extrusion plant is further equipped with two ageing ovens, an in-house
powder coating plant and in-house anodising plant. This allows the company to have total control over its end-to-end manufacturing processes which is an important differentiator. Paul said: “Having complete control over our manufacturing processes is important to us and our customers. It ensures we can offer a high level of control over quality and because we extrude totally in the UK there are fewer supply chain risks. And because we’re a UK aluminium extrusion company selling to UK-based fabricators, our environmental impact is further reduced, protecting our carbon footprint.”
