Pyroguard ignites Fire Door Safety Week 2014

David Jolliffe – CEO of CGI Group, Manufacturers of Pyroguard, marked Fire Door Safety Week by hosting a factory day at  their site in Haydock, Merseyside on Wednesday 17th September.

A recent review of 100 cases prosecuted under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 found that inadequate fire doors were the second highest reason for prosecutions. Fire doors are often left open with the escape routes obstructed and door closers disconnected, meaning safety is not at the forefront of people’s minds.  The 15th of September kicked off Fire Door Safety Week 2014 and the continued campaign to ensure this crucial element of fire safety is used correctly in every public building in Britain.

David Jolliffe commented “The 3 million fire doors that are installed in the UK every year need to be fitted and used correctly to ensure optimum results. Installing a fire door and then failing to use it properly makes the protection they offer meaningless. Fire doors need to be treated as the safety device that they are, and not just like a normal door”.

Participants invited to the factory day had a tour around the facility and gained an unparalleled insight into how Pyroguard manufacture the quality fire resistant glass that is used in fire doors.   They were then transported to an  independent testing furnace in Warrington where the glass was tested, and passed with flying colours. Fire doors must meet the highest standards to ensure that they save lives and it is critical that manufacturers of fire resistant glass meet all the requirements and are tested by an accredited third party.

Pyroguard is proud to be an independent, specialist fire resistant glass manufacturer that offers technical support, expert advice and guidance on the specification and installation of fire resistant glass.  David Jolliffe said “It would be easy to simply manufacture fire resistant glass but Pyroguard aims to go beyond that and help our customers and partners in the building industry with complete fire glass safety solutions. Being affiliated with Fire Door Safety Week further highlights our commitment and drive for fire safety that extends beyond the factory door.  It is imperative  to the success of this campaign  that those of us in this industry are committed to spreading the message and making fire safety and all the elements it comprises of something that is treated with the seriousness it merits”.
